ATLAST Mission
"Our mission is to inspire and empower Latino High School students to become leaders in their school and community while also preparing them to seek careers where Latinos are underrepresented and impact their community."
What We Do
ATLAST aims to give Latino students the tools, skills, and confidence they need to succeed-in their journey toward postsecondary attainment and for their future career goals.
Why We Do It
There needs to be a program that explicitly addresses Latino students' deficiencies that consider their cultural characteristics and utilizes these differences as strengths to further their education and involvement in the community.
- Texas Education Agency Division of Research and Analysis Report
ATLAST: Aspiring Texas Latinos Achieving Success Together is a Latino Leadership Program that empowers Latinos High School students to become leaders within their school and community, while preparing them to pursue careers where Latinos are underrepresented.
ATLAST accomplishes this by utilization of a specialized curriculum which takes into account of Latino students’ cultural differences. Currently these differences have prevented students from maximizing their education and talent. In addition, ATLAST places Latino students in “menternships” (mentor/internship) where Latinos have low representation. i.e., medical, non profits, City Council, Chamber of Commerce, child education, law, and other city entities. Through this experience, students develop the tools to become leaders while in school and are equipped to assist other Latino students by directing them to valuable resources available in the school and community.
The Impact
The program will seek to increase college enrollment/completion, the number of Latinos we have in careers that impact Latino lives daily, and where Latinos are severely underrepresented:
Teachers
Attorneys
Psychologists
Tech Industry
Bank Executives
Elected Officials
